NATURE OF THINGS: WHEN LESS IS MORE
THIS WEEK
Join us Sunday August 13 at 7pm on CBC-TV for a new episode of THE
NATURE OF THINGS WITH DAVID SUZUKI
WHEN LESS IS MORE
When is Enough, Enough? produced in 2003, told the inside story of the
Mikisew Cree First Nation's call for a moratorium on oil sands
development and their opposition to two large new oil sands projects. At
that time, oil hovered at around $30 a barrel and companies were lined
up to begin multi-billion dollar projects. It was predicted that
production would quadruple over the next 20 years to reach 2 million
barrels of oil a day. The oil sands covered an area the size of Ireland
. And the plea of the Mikisew fell on deaf ears.
When Less is More will include a condensed story of the Mikisew's
sophisticated challenge to Big Oil and add important new interviews and
updated information about the growing alarm over the rapid and massive
rate of development taking place in Alberta's booming oil sands.
